Alone
These five paintings, Eva, Pattie, Virgie, Lillie Mae, and Claire all depict old-old women who are fiercely holding onto their independence. On their own, each painting tells a personal life story; together they tell one story. The women in the paintings could be life-sized, but their scale is smaller, the height of an average toddler, another developmental stage dealing with the dichotomy of dependence and independence.

Late is a long grid of nearly one hundred 10-inch-square oil portraits of “old-old” women, age 75 and up along with some slightly larger portraits. Sourced from I-phone snapshots, social media posts, or grainy obituary photos, these portraits pay homage to women in late life.
